A Tree

It was winter, and the snow was on the ground, and on the trees. There was an almost delicate, poetic look to the trees, something that you imagine from a fairy story.
The snow, the moment are ephemeral, like life itself. What comes, must go.
The beauty of the captured moment lasts forever. Some things run deep, far deeper than fleeting memories, far deeper than fleeting moments.
A thing of beauty lasts forever.

A Chinese Painting

It was winter, and it was snowing. I generally stayed on one side of the lake. The place – Rottach-Egern, had a sort of cold beauty about it.

As I looked across the lake, I saw the homes of the people on the other side. They somehow reminded me of the paintings on some Chinese scrolls that I have seen. Many Chinese scrolls adopt a minimalist style of painting, and this photograph is certainly not minimalist in it’s style and representation, in that sense.

Yet, the photo, despite being a colour digital photograph almost has a monochrome look about it. This is the part that reminds me of some Chinese scroll paintings, which have a sort of monochrome look about them.

From an Indian perspective, and I have probably written this before, we would hate to live in such sparse towns. The only places in India where I would live in such towns, are the hill stations.

The towns were I grew up also had a frozen beauty. But, one of these towns, Nainital, from what I hear, does not have that any more.
